Well, at least the life of one man.

Snaz Martin, proprietor of the Britannia Inn in Gillingham, Kent, U.K., was minding his own business behind the bar when one of his patrons stabbed him in the belly. The knife opened a three-inch wound in his chest, but didn’t hit any vital organs.

“I’m not massive by any stretch of the imagination — I only weigh 182 pounds. But I do have a beer belly and they’re saying that’s what saved me,” Martin told The Sun.

So drink up, folks. It could keep you alive.
